We kicked off the new year with a bang at my latest Mompreneur Tribe meetup! Robin Camarote shared great tips on goal on setting effective, attainable goals and creating a realistic action plan to achieve them. See below for a recap of Robin’s talk plus great app, book, and resource recs from attendees. Tweet me @anjvarma or join the convo at my Mompreneur Tribe facebook group and let me know if you implement any of Robins’ tips! If you are in the DC metro area, join us February 22nd for my next meetup where we will be talking Integrated Marketing Strategy. Hope to see you there!
Create A Short-Term Plan to Achieve 2017 Goals
A More Focused Alternative to “Powering Through”
Start small, think sequentially. Get “wins” and then move on.
Pick one goal to focus on first. You CAN have everything- just not all at the same time!
Break that goal into smaller pieces or actions
Identify a piece of each goal that would be easier if it were a habit—instead of a big, one-time activity. For example, if your goal is to get healthier maybe you start by eliminating sugar in your coffee. That’s it.
Form the habit by taking that action 21 days in a row (rule of thumb)
Notice- is it working or not? If not, what’s something else you could try? If yes, move on to the next piece
Things I believe to be true about goals
Goals should be specific and measurable
Small actions have a big impact
Right for right now
Stretchy, but with some built-in flexibility in what success ultimately looks like
Integrated into the rest of your life
Aligned with your strengths
Within your direct control
Yours, not someone else’s goals for you
7 Ways to Increase Your Chances of Success That Really Work
Know your biggest pain point
Write your goal down
Track your progress. Measure what you can.
Limit yourself to 3 “to do” items per day. This forces you to focus. Every time you get distracted from your task – it takes 23 minutes to get back on task
