I have a confession to make! I have a love/hate relationship with Instagram. I love scrolling through, I love curating fun images for my feed, I love posting stories when I’m in the mood. But, I also, hate the time suck that it can be, I hate how it sometimes makes me feel icky to see perfectly curated feeds, and I hate how it sometimes feels like the amount of time I spend on it is not nearly worth it. The struggle is real and I know many of you can relate!
Even though I know the platform can be a time suck, I also know that it can also be a powerful sales and marketing tool for my business, one that I cannot ignore. In fact, I’ve seen first hand how many of my clients have landed business as a result of Instagram and how it has helped both of my businesses.
So, for those of you who are on the fence about Instagram or don’t think it is for you, one of my goals of this post is to convince you that it is a channel that you should not ignore and one that can help you to build your business! And, today I am sharing examples of how this tool has helped my businesses. I hope it will give you a few ideas on how you can leverage the social media tool for your business.
4 Ways My Businesses Have Benefitted From Instagram:
1.) Drive Sales – I’ve had people attend my meetups that found me on Instagram. Coaching clients that were convinced to work with me and purchased a package because of my Instagram and people who have purchased my bootcamps because they found me and info on my bootcamps on Instagram. It truly can work as a sales tool if you are putting out the right content and are speaking to the right audience.
2.) Building Relationships – I’ve nurtured relationships with large influencers (like the founder of Drybar Alli Webb and online guru Lewis Howes) and local influencers (who have become colleagues and/or helped to spread the word about me and my businesses). I’ve found meetup speakers through this channel, collaborators for my bootcamps, and have even fostered relationships that have even landed me a speaking gig purely from relationships that I build on Instagram.
3.) Enhances Personal Brand & Builds Credibility – I’ve had coaching and consulting clients refer to my Instagram as a reason they want to work together or as a “seal of approval” of why they want to work together. It provides an opportunity for me to display my expertise, how I work, what I work on and also show a bit of my personality – all factors that prospective clients look at when deciding whether to work with you. Instagram has become like a business card or another channel that people will check out before determining whether to work with you.
4.) Inspiration & Education – I follow people in my industries and influencers who provide great tips on marketing, sales, business, and my industry. I follow people who are doing what I want to do and give me ideas on new projects to launch or strategies to incorporate. It is a great source of inspiration, education, motivation, and ideas. Again, if you follow the right people and businesses.
