Last week I had the privilege of speaking at Alt Summit, the premiere conference for creative entrepreneurs and stylish social media influencers. It was my first time at Alt and it was quite the experience! It was amazing to be in Palm Springs, surrounded by super talented, motivated, and inspiring entrepreneurs (check out my Instagram for some of the fun!)! I led two roundtable discussions on networking and personal branding and it was amazing to see the passion and excitement of all the attendees!
It was amazing speaking, but one of the best parts of the conference was learning from others! I sat in on panels, keynotes, and workshops on everything from social media to SEO. Joanna Gaines was the opening keynote (OMG fan girl moment) and I attended panels led by some of my fave Insta influencers, and so much more! I’ve rounded up a few of my fave key learnings below!
1.) Know Your Why – why are you blogging or posting on social media? Is it to develop awareness, drive sales, make connections? Be mindful and intentional in your actions and approach on social media. The more you dig in on your why, the easier posting on social media becomes and the more effective the channel becomes for you.
2.) Launching A Podcast Is Not Expensive Or That Difficult – I attended so many podcast sessions and in every one they reiterated that the start up costs are minimal – you need a mic, editing software (there are a few free options), hosting service, headphones and that is really it. It is totally doable and it is not expensive. Every single session also reiterated that it is not that tough of a process to launch once you have the idea of your topic and format. I need to get moving, how about you?
3.) Authenticity is Critical – Joanna Gaines delivered the keynote in which she talked a ton about how she makes most of her business decisions based on authenticity. She states, “If its not authentic, we don’t want to do it” … “The world needs who you are made to be. If you want people to stop and stay awhile, be you , be authentic”. Almost every social media session also touched on the importance of authenticity … the key to building a following and converting followers into customers is authenticity.
4.) Podcasts and Social Media Can Serve As Effective Sales Funnels – We all know this in theory but it is always helpful to hear specific examples of how entrepreneurs use these channels to make actual sales. One podcaster talked about how she generated $5K in course sales in one day after announcing her course on her podcast. Another shared her tips of how she leverages instagram to drive viewers to her site for email capture. Again, having a goal for social media/podcasts is critical and at the end of the day one of our goals should always be to drive sales for our business! And, many speakers shared how they do they leverage Instagram, podcasts, Facebook and more to do just that.
5.) Connecting and Knowledge Sharing Can Transform Your Business – My favorite part of the conference was meeting impressive entrepreneurs, connecting with them, brainstorming with them, and learning from them. I was lucky enough to have a few deep dive sessions about my own business with a few super smart business women who provided me with such great ideas, focus, and strategies that I believe can literally transform my business. Exciting things to come!
