As you know, I rarely talk about the “mom side” of mompreneurship, I’m typically all business tips & content! But most of you that follow me are both entrepreneurs & moms. So, today I’m speaking to all you moms out there! I’m wondering how many of you make a conscious effort to expose your children to your business?
I’m sure many of you participate in Take Your Children To Work Day. And, if you are like me, there many days that end up being Take Your Children To Work Day! Either you are physically taking them along with you for something business related or you are working while they are home. Through the years, I’ve been amazed at how much my kids have picked up about entrepreneurship just by being passively exposed to it. And, as they get older, I’m amazed at how much more inquisitive and curious they are about entrepreneurship, business, and what mom does.
Recently I’ve become more intentional in exposing them to my business and teaching them about entrepreneurship. I show them more aspects of my business, explain the projects that I am working on, answer their questions in more detail and make an effort to use these conversations to introduce business concepts. Why? 1.) Because I want them to know what I do and 2.) Because I think they can learn so much from entrepreneurship (more to follow on that in an upcoming blog post!). In order to reinforce this learning, I have also started seeking out more formal programs that are geared towards kids learning about entrepreneurship. What programs in your community can help expose your children to what you do?
If you are in the DC Metro, I highly recommend that you check out LEAD camp where kids learn about business concepts like finance, marketing, customer service and then work in teams to create their own business idea. They apply the concepts that they learn to this business idea and create a comprehensive presentation about their business. At the end of the 2 weeks, they pitch their idea and their presentation to a panel of judges and their peers (it is just like Shark Tank)! And that is only half of the day! The other half of the day is spent playing games and working on athletic development so there is an “out of the classroom”, fun, physical component as well! My child and his friends went last summer LOVED it and we already signed up for next summer!
I have a special code for my network for $175 off of LEAD camp if you sign up by November 30th: momlead. This offer is better than any other offer you will see for this camp so if you are interested, sign up before the 30th! Feel free to email me with any questions and click here for more info!
Full Disclosure: I loved the LEAD camp experience so much that I am now providing marketing consulting for them and helping them to spread the word! But, I only recommend products/services that I love and would use!
